The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is a magnificent creature all on its own. It boasts power, style, and enough space for your family to spread out comfortably. Chevrolet knows that even with all of those special elements, it’s still fun to add packages that add a little something extra. That’s why they are introducing the Suburban RST Performance Package, which adds even more style, and most importantly--V8 engine power. This sort of package is perfect for someone who wants a sportier look to their Suburban, and who wouldn’t want to stand out a little more from the crowd? The RST Performance Package has already received rave reviews from customers who obtained it for the Chevrolet Tahoe last year, and now it’s the Suburbans time to shine. Can you tell me about the engine that comes with the RST Performance Package?
The Suburban, for the first time ever, is going to be featuring a 6.2-liter V8 engine with the RST Performance package. That engine will generate up to 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine is worth the wait for any Suburban enthusiast, as it comes with Active Fuel Management, direct injection, and continuously variable valve timing. Along with this powerful engine, you’ll be getting a ten-speed automatic transmission. The small steps between each ratio allows the engine to maximize power under acceleration. The transmission is also able to reduce engine revolutions when driving at highway speeds because of the wide 7.39 overall gear ratio spread, and the lower numerical top gear ratio.
What performance accessories are available?
In order to match the powerful engine and the impressive transmission, there are a large amount of performance accessories. One of the most important is the custom tuned Performance Dual-Side Exit exhaust system. Borla engineered that exhaust, and continues to back it, especially with the exhaust tips that are able to improve the exhaust flow by around 28%. This means that fuel consumption is decreased, and there is enhancement in the performance. If you’re looking for a brake upgrade, then you can get the GM backed large red Brembo fixed aluminum, six-piston calipers that include brake pads that clamp on 410 x 32mm Duralife rotors. That system gives you an 84% increase in the brake pads, and a 42% increase in the rotor area. To reduce corrosion of the rotors, they feature a hardened surface.
What changes does the RST package make to the Suburban?
The regular 2019 Suburban comes with a large amount of chrome trim. The RST Performance package strips away the chrome in order to create a street-like appearance that is sportier and edgier. Chevrolet has also changed the door handles and the body-color grille surround, along with create black roof rails, special badging, mirror caps, and a gloss-black grille. You’ll also be getting 22-inch wheels that are wrapped in Bridgestone tires. These changes allow for the Suburban RST to stand out and show off.
